Developing and enriching tourism education in Russia
The Netour project was made possible by the EU-funded TEMPUS programme that promotes collaboration between the European Union and the Russian Federation.
In the Russian federation, the teaching of tourism is still in early stages of development, leading to a lack of qualified managers in this rapidly growing sector. Netour brings together a dozen universities and business schools, seven of them in the Federation, working together to develop innovative courses and curricula.
David Ward-Perkins is working alongside SKEMA Business School colleague Frédéric Dimanche, as a key member of the EU team. He has led much of the initial research, working with the Russian universities and schools, and helping design professional training programmes for Russian businesses. In particular, he has been in the front lines of Netour projects being undertaken in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Sochi, Krasnodar and Yoshkar-Ola (Mari El State).
