Recent Projects

Arzamas-Diveevo tourism cluster, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, in rural Russia, famous for its religious heritage. Working with Strelka-KB, a Moscow-based urban design consultant, David developed a tourism design and strategy to open up the small town of Arzamas and its surrounding villages, for cultural tourism.

 

 

Handbook on Transnational Tourism Themes and Routes. David Ward-Perkins was the editor and principal author of the Handbook, prepared by TEAM Tourism for the European Travel Commission and the UN World Tourism Organisation. It provides practical guidelines on the management of international projects, including the creation of long-distance cultural routes, backed by over 80 case studies and examples. Read more.

 

Food destination case studies. In 2017, David Ward-Perkins led a team of consultants to produce a set of case studies on successful food hubs around the world. The work was undertaken for VisitBritain and DEFRA (UK Department of Food and Rural Affairs), who commissioned the work to gain insights into best practice in the field of food and drink tourism product development.  Six major cases were identified, including Catalonia, Melbourne, Tasmania, Nova Scotia and the Basque Country. Sustainable tourism framework for Djibouti. In 2018, the International Trade Commission and the Tourism Office of Djibouti commissioned three consultants, including David Ward-Perkins, to design a framework for sustainable tourism, to integrate into the development strategy of this small but strategic Republic, situated between Ethiopia and the Red Sea. Al Hoota Cave, Sultanate of Oman.  In 2015, David Ward-Perkins led a team of eight consultants from TEAM Tourism, to deliver a strategy to the Ministry of Tourism for the development of Al Hoota Cave, in the Hajar Mountains. Read more.

 

 

Amble seafood tourism development. The coastal town of Amble has been awarded a £1.8 million tourism ‘Coastal Communities’ development grant, following a feasibility study undertaken by TEAM Tourism. Client: Northumberland County Council, on behalf of local partner. Read more.

 

 

Abergavenny Distinctiveness Study. The attractive market town of Abergavenny is famous for its annual Food Festival. A TEAM Tourism study has now identified the opportunity to position Abergavenny as a leading food tourism town. Client: Monmouthshire County Council. Read more.

 

 

Creation of a Transnational Cultural Route, from Northern Ireland to the Appenines. This European Cultural Route celebrates the 6th century journey of  Saints Columbanus and Gall from Bangor (North Down) across France, Switzerland and Austria to the Italian town of Bobbio. Developing and enriching tourism education in Russia. The University of Extremadura (Spain) and Skema Business School were coordinators of a 12-partner programme to upgrade tourism education and training in Russia.
