Handbook on Transnational Themes and Routes

The Handbook was prepared by TEAM Tourism for the European Travel Commission and the UN World Tourism Organisation, and David Ward-Perkins was the editor and principal author. It describes the principal characteristics of large-scale international projects, and provides practical guidelines on how they can be managed. A particular focus is on the creation of long-distance cultural routes. The chapters are backed by over 80 case studies and examples.

The Handbook can be downloaded from the UNWTO website at https://www.e-unwto.org/doi/book/10.18111/9789284419166, and from the ETC at https://etc-corporate.org/reports/handbook-on-marketing-transnational-tourism-themes-and-routes/.

The Handbook identifies different types of transnational collaboration, and addresses the difficulty of progressing major projects when the partners come from different countries and backgrounds. It proposes a practical framework for managing such projects
